TL;DR

Why is my Luma event not showing up on discover?

Luma decides which events it features on each city’s discover page. Per Luma’s own help page, featured events are picked by its curation team, and meeting the criteria does not guarantee selection. Everything else is still public: Luma says public events can be indexed by search engines. It doesn’t appear on that city’s discover page.

Across 27 cities, we currently track 3273 events. We crawl Luma every 4 hours, and in each city we find events in organizer calendars that were not on the featured list. You can see the split for your own city on its page, for example San Francisco. A few cities from our latest crawl:

City Events Featured Not featured
San Francisco 476 66 410
New York 253 89 164
Austin 222 19 203
Sydney 131 12 119

That is not a judgement on quality. In SF, 410 of 476 events weren’t featured.

What does the Add Event tool do?

hiddenevents.online/add-event/ is a single form.

  1. Paste one or more luma.com event links.
  2. We look each link up on Luma and read its location.
  3. If the event is in person and inside one of our cities, we pin the organizer’s calendar and run a crawl for that city.
  4. The event shows up on that city’s page, usually within about 10 minutes.

Because we pin the calendar, you do not need to resubmit for the next event. In-person events from that calendar in that city are picked up by the regular crawl. Events with a hidden address still need a quick manual review.

What if my address is hidden or my event is online?

How do I check whether my event is hidden first?

Use the Is my Luma event hidden? checker. Paste a link and it tells you the event’s city and whether Luma’s discover feed featured it in our latest crawl.

It is deliberately cautious. If your event is not in our latest crawl, for example because it is brand new or already over, it says “not found” instead of guessing that it is hidden.

Who is this for?

Anyone running public in-person events on Luma: community meetups, founder dinners, run clubs, workshops, hackathons. If you already have a calendar with a few events, one submission is enough to get all of them in front of people who browse our city pages.

Ready? Add your event. If you would rather show your city’s events on your own site, there is also a free embeddable events widget.
